History of Ingolstadt
Ingolstadt was the residence of the Wittelsbach dukes and hosted Bavaria's first university from 1472. The massive 19th-century fortifications (Festung Ingolstadt) are still partly preserved. In the city walls the novel "Frankenstein" was inspired by Mary Shelley in 1800. Today Audi dominates the city as its largest employer.
